~~ WHAT IS HAIRDRESSING ? ~~
All human beings have a thick growth of hair to cover the skull, which in turn protects the brain. This hair grows long, unlike hair on other parts of the body. The manipulation of this mane, cutting, combing in different directions, tying into various angles can result in changing one's looks. This is the only part of the body that can be cut and chopped, colored, shaped, waved and straightened to improve a person's normal, natural appearance.
Man discovered this wonder many centuries ago. He also realized that taming his hair made his daily chores easier. Unlike other animals man does not shed his hair during the hot season. So cutting and tying was discovered and appreciated. Today with the development of human skills, handling hair has also become a billion dollar business, providing employment to millions and giving satisfaction to all other in the world.
Hairdressing is styling of hair. Hair can be moulded in to different shapes to suit the whims and fancies of the wearer and completely change his look. No other part of the body can be cut or shaped within minutes without harming the health of the person.

- COMMUNICATION -
Effective communication with the client is the most important factor in the hairdressing profession. To satisfy a client and to understand a client and to take a personal action to establish what the clients need are :- you should communicate effectively with the client. As each client has their individual qualities and needs it is important that the hairdresser should be friendly, curious and professional towards the client. (Sir, Madam, Mr, Mrs or personal names) If a novice hairdresser if she has a problem to understand the client speech , vocabulary, pace or accents you should get help from the trainer tutor or the manager.
some client may have communication difficulties including hearing, language and sight limitation and lack of attention. As such never assume that your client will understand your communication hundred percent.
Unless you are aware of your client wishes you will not be able to work towards satisfying the clients. Communication is the key factor.
- CLIENT CONSULTATION -
The most important factor in the consultation to identify factor that may limit or affect the service. Products and equipments you use for the client.At the client consultation there are two communication methods. verbal communication and nonverbal communication.
* Verbal communication :- Communicating effectively eye contact sitting in the same level
* Nonverbal communication :- Styling books, photographs, fashion magazines, wigs, computerized style viewers, eye contact, body language
- CRITICAL INFLUENCING FACTORS -
The critical influencing factors can be recorded in the previous consultation and the service so that the hairdresser and the client will know to consider and limit to advice the service which is more suitable to use after care product to explain to the client feature and benefit of product.

- HAIR ANALYSIS -
The conditions of the hair is analysed " by sight, by touch, hearing,smell. "
* By sight :- You will immediately have some knowledge about its conditioner. An experience hairdresser will be able to analyse by sight before touching the hair.
* By touch :- Hairdresser can be guided by the touch and the feel of the hair to develop and to judge and to determine what service should be done.
* Hearing :- Listen to what your client say's about their hair as they can have health problem, reactions to cosmetics if they are taking medication.
* Smell :- Unclean hair and certain scalp disorder create an odour. Can limit certain service at this stage if the client is generally health you might suggest regular shampooing and proper rinsing.
- ANALYSING QUALITIES OF THE HAIR -
* TEXTURE :- Degree of coarseness or fineness of the hair. ( Thick or Thin )
* POROSITY :- Ability of all types of hair to absorb moisture which is called " Hygroscopic " quality of the hair.
* ELASTICITY :- Ability of stretch and return to its original position without braking hair.
- HAIR GROWTH PATTENS -
The direction of different hair growth patterns will limit certain hair styles and hair cuts. strong directions of hair growth, including nape whorls and double crowns will require special consideration to reduce the adverse effect that they can have on the finished hairstyle.
